Ed: Charles doesn't have a computer, so Brian Cauchi sent this in Found some time to pop over to our club meeting yesterday and I saw the scratchbuilt glad. What a brilliant model. IT is beautiful and the only unfortunate thing is that it is primed too dark to appreciate the detail. It is all primed and ready for painting. The entire aircraft cost nothing to build since everything was made from scrap pieces of plastic. The fuselage and wings were constructed from a strong stiff plastic used for vertical blinds. I did not see them before use but these were white strips. The engine cylinders were made by punching out thin aluminium circles and gluing them together with a spacer in between the rings. The cowling was hot formed over a wooden male mould. Everything you see is scratchbuilt from plastic, brass or sheet aluminium. Propeller is hand carved, each blade being individually made in plastic. The wheels are one solid shape made from hard metal and sanded to shape. I think that the whole thing is excellent and am dying to see it painted. It was buillt by a member of our club, Charles Caruana, who unfortunately does not have an email. He loves experimenting and one of his experiments is a 24th scale P51D in the Big Beautiful doll markings covered in ordinary kitchen foil. Another beautiful venture. |
