1/20 Scratch-built X-15
by Jerome Braure, Switzerland

This is how my first scratch-built model began...

These are the fuselage section templates that will be used with my home-built thermal saw.

The fuselage is cut out of several hard foam blocks with the saw's hot wire. The wings and all the flat parts are made of fiberglass-copper sandwich.

The fuselage sections are then glued together and sanded.

The fuselage is coated with two layers of fiberglass.

The "nose-ball" is a ball I used to play with when I was a kid. Just the right size...

The "paper-windshield" used for designing the canopy shape will be replaced by fiberglass-copper and putty

There won't be much detail in the cockpit but I'll do something better with my next model. I might though put the top part of the ejection-seat with the pilot's helmet since it shall be displayed in flight configuration.
