Airfix 1:24 Stuka

By Donald Watson

When I was a teenager, I read an article about how a modeller painted and weathered a 1:24 scale Airfix Stuka in winter camouflage. Ever since then I have wanted to do the same. It took over 10 years to get it but it was worth the wait. The mods include plumbing and wiring to the engine and cockpit, a rolled up map for the rear gunner, an electric motor inside the engine with the wiring going into the base behind each main wheel. Just to add a little something to the base I added footprints in the snow and a name ‘relieved’ in the snow. Of the aircraft ground/maintenance personnel I have met over many years in the aviation industry, this type of humour is quite common no matter what nationality.
