New Releases From Montex A Preview ¶¶¶¶¶(...for the schemes alone!) by Jay Laverty The latest batch of new releases from Polish maks manufacturer Montex see's some very special schemes in my opinion, and I am genuinely excited by some of these sheets, and I think you will all agree with me when I say the inclusion of some resin parts to convert the D-9 into a D-11 is pretty special. We are all fully aware of the quality and ease of use of Montex masks, so I will not go into great detail about them, but I will say they are far above and beyond anything else that is available on the market, and if you havent used them yet, they are definitely worth a try. There is nothing that can compare to sprayed on markings. Besides, it is easier to do than you think... In total we will be looking at 3 new releases in 24th scale and 8 in 32nd: First up we have K24040 Bf.109G-10 for the Trumpeter kit. A pair of Italian Bf.109G-10's for you to choose from. This will no doubt get the juices of the Dave Pogsons out there, looking for someway of getting something other than black crosses on German aircraft.
Next is K24041 Hurricane Mk.I for the Airfix kit. A couple of nice schemes featuring some very cool artwork, and I particularily like the Popeye with wings.
And rounding out the 24th scale stuff is K24042 Bf.109E-3 for the Airfix kit. A pair of 109's from the Battle of Britain with some very nice artwork on them, that will help a model stand out on any table.
In 32nd we see some equally interesting sheets covering a wide variety of aircraft. K32101 MiG-3 for the Trumpeter kit. I am personally very enamoured with the second option on this sheet, and this will definitely be the scheme I use on my model when I finally get around to making it, although the other two schemes are very nice as well. K32102 F2A-2 Buffalo for the Special Hobby kit. Three very distinct, different, and equally appealing schemes for this newly released model. Personally I have to go for the first scheme, but I am partial to a bit of colour myself.
K32013 SBD-3 Dauntless for the Trumpeter kit. Considering the trouble I had with the kit decals when I made mine, I sorely wished these were available a couple of months ago, but I was very grateful to have the canopy masks made avaialble to me for the build. A couple of fairly standard schemes but they are for two completely different theatres of operations, and the yellow surround stars for Operation Torch have an appeal all unto themselves. K32104 SBD-4 Dauntless for the Trumpeter kit. I love the inclusion of a Kiwi bird on this one. If I do an SBD-4 at any point in the future, this will be the one.
K32105 - P-38L - for the Trumpeter kit (PLUS DECALS). Some very cool natural metal P-38's here, with some decals included for the kill markings. K32106 - Fw 190D-11 - for the Hasegawa D-9 kit (CONVERSION SET). My personal
favourite of this batch, includes resin parts to convert the Hasegawa
FW 190D-9
K32107 - Bf 109G-14 - for the Hasegawa kit (PLUS DECALS). A couple of very distinctive and interestingly marked 109's and the inclusion of some decals for the crest is a nice touch. K32108 - I-16 TYP 24 - for the Special Hobby kit (PLUS DECALS). Once again, three very distinctive airframes here, all very nicely marked. Add to that some decals, and you couldn't ask for much more really. Personally I think I will be doing the first one. I lovethat big red tail!

All in all I would say this is an excellent batch or releases and considering the variety of the aircraft and subject selection, Montex are keeping us well supplied with a good variety of subjects to choose from and deserve to be commended for not falling into a trap of doing strictly mainstream (ie. German stuff) subjects, and are doing some of the stuff that won't sell quite as much, but definitely deserves to be done.
