1/32 Scale F2G Corsair Conversion Kit

by Rodney Williams

Enclosed are 20 photos, showing my Revelle F4U-1A kit converted to the F2G Super Corsair.

This conversion kit is made for the "ADVANCED MODELER," who has had experience hand crafting and scratch building parts. Conversion kit experience would be very helpful.

A CD will be included with each kit. There are 2 pages listing well over 125 cast resin parts, and 13 pages of instructions, including dozen's of "in progress" construction photos. Many of the photos show real F2G's, including all the post WW-II air racers. Total photos: 207. You can build over 15 different F2G's.

With patience, an advanced modeler should be able to interpret the instructions, view the selected photos for each building segment, then build a darn good replica of a F2G Super Corsair, using the old Revelle kit. I tried mating up several of my cast resin parts with the new "Trumpeter" Corsair kit. Next to no parts will interchange except for my "rudder." I assume with lots of revisions on their kit, you could use many of my parts.

You "will" have some seams and gaps to fill. You will have some "alignment" problems, while you are mating up the cast resin cowling, along with the cast resin center wing section to the kits fuselage. You will have to "scribe in" all the panel lines. You will need to "scratch build" several items for the cockpit, and a few parts for the tail wheel and main landing gears. All of this data is explained in the instructions on the CD. "You must study the photos."

We are trying to present the kit for sale during the forthcoming IPMS/USA National Convention, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA come August, 2004.

You can order the kit direct from the company:

OBSCURECO AIRCRAFT; San Jose, CA U.S.A.
Email - ObscurAir@aol.com

Please do not "request" any ordering information from me, as I will have nothing to do with the production and/or sales of said conversion kit. My part of the project was to "hand craft" (scratch build) all the "masters" for casting. I would safely say that the cast resin items are about 95% accurate, as I had next to no measurements to build any of the parts.

All modelers are aware that injected molded plastic and cast resin parts will shrink somewhat! This is why I mentioned that you will have some gaps and seams to fill.

I am moving from San Jose, California sometime in July, 2004. My computer will be shut down for a few months. A long "overdue" vacation is at hand, therefore I may not be available to answer any "minor" questions concerning any building problems which may arise for you on the F2G kit, (Availability: Circa..... December, 2004).
