EagleCals
Decals This is a review of the second of four new 1/32nd scale decal sheets showcasing the Bf 109's of Hermann Graf and Alfred Grislawski. These decals are produced by Eagle Editions as a supplement to their successful book detailing the lives of these two men. New variants of Willi Messerschmitt's fighter reached the front lines, as the war progressed. This sheet offers a mix of Bf 109 F and G variants. Graf and Grislawski Part 2 includes the following four schemes:
Further details of these schemes can be found in the book, Graf & Grislawski: A Pair of Aces, reviewed here. Written by Christer Bergstrom, this book is a must for any reference library. The instructions are a four-page fold out. No photos are included. Left side, upper and lower scrap views are included, common to other EagleCals instructions. To assist the modeler, RLM color chips are included. This should help in creating the complex camouflage schemes applied to German aircraft. Microscale prints the decals. The colors appear to be in perfect register and opaque. They are thin with minimal visible carrier film. Though I have not tried them, I expect little difficulty given Microscale's excellent reputation.
These new markings are a very welcome addition to any modeler with an interest in The Bf 109 or the aces that flew them. Eagle Editions has a deserved reputation for creating accurate decals, and it is reflected in this new four-part release. Review Sample Compliments of Eagle Editions © Mark Proulx 2004 |
