Decals EC #52 Scaled German WW II National Insignia in 132nd Scale ¶¶¶¶¶ Reviewed by Mark Proulx |

This is a review of the third of three new 1/32nd scale decal sheet from EagleCals. As with the two previously reviewed decal sheets, Part 3 is based on Jerry Crandall's new book Major Hans "Assi" Hahn. The Man and His Machines.
The instructions do not include any photographs as we have seen in most of the previous releases from EagleCals. Though photos are lacking, individual aircraft details are extensively elaborated upon. Historical notes are included that contain features attributable to each aircraft including RLM color notes. For those modelers looking for additional research material, I would suggest purchasing Jerry's new book, reviewed here. Small templates are included to allow the modeler to accurately paint Hahn's first Bf 109 G-2. Scrap views clearly show the oil cooler restrictor plates that were installed on these Russian Front aircraft for winter operations. Tom Tullis continues to display his incredible color profiles. The same format is followed incorporating left side views, top and bottom scrap views. Inserts show the prominent black paint applied to the fuselage aft of the exhaust. This should prove helpful as the wings in side profile usually block this area. Micro Scale continues to print their high quality decals for EagleCals. As with all their previous decal sheets, I would anticipate no problem with them. Modelers should note that do to a printing error the Lion of Aspern, item "N", was incorrectly printed. EagleCals corrected this by creating a small replacement decal on sheet EC32-52a. This is not shown in the accompanying scan.
EagleCals continue to supply what are arguably the best-researched decals available for German aircraft of WW II. The oil cooler restrictor plate even receives markings denoting its use on the Bf 109 F or G. This is a clear indication of their attention to detail. I am sure that any modeler choosing these decals will be satisfied with them. I recommend them to anyone with an interest in Bf 109's of the Luftwaffe. |
