Printed in 1999, on thick glossy paper, this soft cover book further explores the mysteries of this very unique unit. Chapters explore in vivid detail the three known D-9's and one D-11 that equipped this unit and the men who flew them. In addition, the author further details some of the other aircraft that were found at Ainring at the end of the war. The book is crammed full of photo's of the "Papageienstaffel", many previously unpublished. The photos are printed clearly whenever possible and occasionally enlarged when the author is trying to prove a point. The artwork that we have come to expect from Tom Tullis is superb! A color reference chart for each aircraft is included which explains in great detail their appearance. Stencil and national marking questions are also answered. The book is completed with the addition of all references. While I am sure that a few questions still exist about this unit, Jerry Crandall has gone to great length to provide many of the answers. This is an excellent one-stop reference source and a valuable addition to the EagleCals decal sheet #23-32. I would recommend this book to anybody with a fancy for late war German aircraft and rate this title with five out of five stars. |
