Rutman 1/24th Scale FW 190A-8/R2 Conversion Set ¶¶¶¶ Reviewed by Mark Proulx |
| Conversion sets for 1/24th scale kits have been slow in coming for the large scale builder. Jerry Rutman has set out to rectify that oversight by releasing a 1/24th scale conversion set for the Airfix/MPC FW 190A-6, consisting of ten resin and two brass pieces. Unfortunately, no instructions are included with this set that show the location of all the replacement pieces. |

| The
two largest pieces are designed to replace large sections of the wing
underside that the modeller is required to cut out. These replacement
parts incorporate the characteristic breech covers and shell ejection
slots that were common to the FW 190A-8/R2. It should be a simple matter
to hold these pieces onto the wing underside and draw the outline that
would be required to cut out. The modeller will also find these replacement
panels are scribed and detailed with a similar rivet pattern that is found
on the Airfix/MPC offering. Brass tubing is included to represent the
barrels of the outboard guns. For the upper wing surface, two new gun
covers are included to cover the enlarged breeches of the guns.
Jerry has also included a beautifully cast replacement maintenance access hatch for the fuselage MG 131's and engine access cover ahead of it. The resin engine access cover incorporates the modified shorter gun trough which is found on this variant. Also included with this set are replacement wheels and hubs. These cast resin parts are a direct replacement for the kits rubber wheels and hub assemblies. The wheels are cast with the later style of wheel cover common to this type and are exquisitely cast with fine hub and tread details. The two small circular covers included within the set are covers for the axles. Instructions would help the builder in the location of these parts. Overall, this is a very well thought out conversion set. It will set your large scale Focke Wulf apart from all others. Previous experience doing resin conversions should enable the modeller to complete this simple task with minimal difficulty. The lack of instructions will mean that additional reference material is required. I highly recommend this product from Jerry Rutman. Jerry Rutman's product list and ordering information. |
