Virgil O’Neil has just released his latest effort, a 2008 Calendar highlighting various aircraft of Luftwaffe Aces from the Second World War.

The 74-page calendar is printed on an 8˝ x 8˝ format. It is printed with a bubble jet printer on thick bond paper and is spiral bound. It begins with a map detailing the locations of various German airfields. There is also a brief explanation of Luftwaffe codes applied to their aircraft and a great explanation of the Knights Cross award system.

The calendar naturally progresses on a day by day basis and proceeds to outline all major events in the European air war. As well, significant holidays are noted through out. Each date allows you to make notes and keep track of your own schedule.

The highlights of the calendar are the twelve laminated color profiles of various German aircraft. Depicted are versions of the Bf 109, Fw 190 and Ta 152. The color profiles are nicely detailed by making reference to photos and colors matched to Luftwaffe color chips. Each color profile page includes a photo of the pilot, his history, insignias and color information.

Virgil also supplies 8˝ x 11 prints suitable for framing from his website:

A quick look at his website also reveals that he does provide custom print work and is openly looking for future suggestions. I would urge modelers/historians to have a look.

While the book is listed as a calendar, I think it more resembles a personal day planner. The color artwork is well laid out and the information included could prove to be very helpful. I think the 2008 Calendar makes for a unique collectable and is worth investigation!
