Delta One | Bort Numbers - Generic Rounded

Reviewed by Kevin Futter

Delta One is a new decal provider out of Europe, aiming to fill gaps in the existing market. The set we're examining here features a range of aircraft numbers for types Russian service. As the product title suggests, these are in the rounded style, and the set also includes Russian stars in 2 sizes.

While the set is officially described as being for 1/72 Russian heavy haulers, the instructions include a sheet of use cases, which mentions the following:

Nevertheless it can be used for larger scale fighters such as 1/32 Mi-15s, MiG-29s and Sukhoi fighter family.

The numbers are in fact quite large, and at first glance appear to be ideally sized for 1/32 Russian jets. The stars however appear to be too small to be of use in 1/32 scale.

The decals themselves are supplied on two main sheets, plus a small supplementary sheet containing white stars, presumably as backing for the red ones.

The decals appear to be very nicely printed, and in good registration. Excess carrier film is kept to a minimum, though the closed portions of the numbers (called the counter) have a solid carrier film backing. Colour density appears to be excellent. The supplied stars appear to be designed to be used over a white base coat, as the outer border are is transparent. To use them over a camouflaged aircraft, you'd need to employ the supplied white backing stars.

For information on how Delta One decals perform, see my review of the company's American G-6s set, where I put them to the test. Assuming the same printing methods have been employed, these will be fine.

Conclusion

This is a handy utility set, and will be especially useful if you build 1/32 Russian jets, but it obviously has other applications too. Recommended!
