Eagle Editions | EC127: 1/32 EagleCals Me 262A-1a

Reviewed by Mark Proulx

This is the last of the four new 1/32nd scale decals from Eagle Editions. Modelers are provided with markings and are best suited to the superb Trumpeter Me 262 A-1a.

The markings are provided for two well-known German Me 262 Aces:

  1. Double Chevron, JV 44, W.Nr. Unknown, flown by Generalleutnant Adolf Galland
  2. Green 1, III./JG 7, W.Nr. Unknown, flown by Major Rudi Sinner.

Tom Tullis provides his spectacular airbrushed profiles clearly identifying the color features of each aircraft. Detailed instructions provide modeling notes with color and marking information. Also included are color top and bottom views to ensure complete accuracy of your completed model. Stencil diagrams are provided depicting factory stencil placement.

All of the marking information for Galland's Me 262 is found within Volume Two of Jerry Crandall's new Fw 190 Dora series of books. Sinner's aircraft, while looking similar to the aircraft included within EagleCals #95, displays different angles to the camouflage diagonal stripes. Look to Luftwaffe im Focus for available reference photos of this aircraft.

The single page of decals are printed in Italy by Cartograph. The markings are printed in perfect register and appear to be very thin with minimal carrier film. Complete stencils and national insignia are also supplied.

The true identity of Galland's Me 262 while assigned to JV 44 has long remained a mystery and source of controversy. Thanks to Eagle Editions, we now understand what this historically significant aircraft looked like and have decals available for it. I recommend these decals to anyone with an interest in late war German aircraft and their Aces.
