IPMS Brazil 2008 - XXII Brazilian Plastic Modeling National Convention Photo Report Part 1

The Show

Here´s a photo report on 2008 Brazilian IPMS Nats, held during June 7-8 at São Paulo. As usual, it was a great, well organized convention. The organizing committee must be congratulated again. The convention this time was held at Marista Glória high school. Due to reasons out of the committee hands, it wasn't possible to use PAMA (a division of Brazilian Air Force) hangars as in the previous years (a pity).

I must add that this was the smallest of the last eight editions. About 200 modelers gathered around 1000 models on the tables, with visible reduction in the number of entries in Vehicles, AFV and Figures categories. The level of craftsmanship remained very high, though. Once again, the 1/24 category was merged with the 1/32, something not fair in this editor's opinion. Some hobby shops and industry representatives attended the convention, where you could find interesting goodies from new releases to collectors items.

Every year the IPMS Brazil is my personal opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. It was wonderful a event. Congratulations to the IPMS/São Paulo staff for a great job. Now, onto the photos. I restricted this report to 1/32 scale and larger. I avoided the use of flash light as much as possible in order to preserve the natural color of the models (some may be a bit dark). So, if you have interest in any photo in a larger resolution, drop me a line. If you're interested in the other categories, check my personal web page.

Jets

This Trumpeter Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker was the nicest one among the jets. It got a gold in Jets category, congratulations to the author, Agnaldo Mariote:

It was nice to see many Trumpeter models, a first for me in many cases. The silver medal went to this Trumpeter A-7D Corsair II, by Claudio Silva:

The venerable Revell F-14A, also by Claudio Silva, was also present. Difficult to believe this is the old Revell model. It ranked third:

This Academy F-18 was very nice:

While this Hasegawa F-5E Tiger II sported a Brazilian Air Force commemorative scheme on the 58 years of the 3rd Fighter Group:

Choppers

Nothing but this single IMC Bell 206 Jet Ranger in a BAF scheme. The model got a bronze in the Rotatory Wings, 1/48 and larger unified category. Model by Marcelo Guedes:

Props

Let's start by a big one. This Trumpeter Zero in 1/24 scale was wonderfully done by a modeler from Rio de Janeiro (I forgot the name). I guess this is his third Gold in a row. The 1/32 and the 1/24 categories were merged (like in the previous years) due to this only model, but I don't think it was fair. This issued must be addressed by the committee in the next years. In any case, it was beautiful:

The big Zero was almost OOB, but these new 1/24 Trumpeter models are very well detailed:

Note the stressed skin effect on the wings:

Another nice presence was the old Revell Bf 110C, something rare here. The modeler has vacuum formed a new canopy and scribed the whole model:

The Bf 110 was a living proof that these old Revell kits still provide nice models when correctly approached:

The new Hasegawa Stuka was also present:

As well as his old Revell cousin:
