Special Hobby 1/32 T-2C Buckeye

By Mark McAllister

I recently finished the Special Hobby T-2C. It's a pretty good short run kit with the usual pitfalls, i.e., triple-check alignment of everything twice! Fit is surprisingly good if you take your time, surface detail is good but it needs to be a bit heavier - it gets faint under a few coats of white. Fit of the main wheel wells is really bad though. I think they could have done better by offering one piece wells in resin rather than multi-piece plastic. The exhaust area requires lots of filler and reshaping. It's a tough area to mold in the first place but they got some of the radii wrong where the pieces join. Nothing a sanding stick can't fix but it did take time to get it right.

Some reviews of the web have said the rear cockpit floor is too deep, I didn't mess with that, I just shimmed the rear seat to the proper height - easy-peasy! The instrument panels are decals, but they are really thin and fragile! The front dash shroud was added with some .010 sheet stock, otherwise it's all out-of-box.
