Trumpeter 1/32 P-47D Razorback

By Tolga Ulgur

This is the 1/32 Trumpeter P-47D-22 with the markings of “42-26293 Belle of Belmont” from the 63rd FS / 56th FG in Boxted.

Note that this Thunderbolt has the Curtiss Electric propeller though it is a D-22. It probably had been changed in the field.

The cockpit was enhanced with an Yahu instrument panel and Eduard seatbelts.

I have used BarracudaCast main wheels and an Eduard tail wheel.

Paints used were Gunze Sangyo acrylics and Alclad metalizers.

It seems that this was Thunderbolt delivered simply in a natural metal finish but in the field upper surfaces were painted RAF Dark green except for the anti-glare panel. And also note that D day stripes on the upper surfaces were over-painted later.

As seen in a reference picture this Thunderbolt carries different fuel tanks on both wings. On the right wing, a 215 gallon belly tank and on the left wing, similar but not identical to the one on the right, possibly a makeshift type produced in the field.

Decals are from Kagero’s “P-47 Thunderbolt with the USAAF- European Theatre of Operations” book.

Happy Modelling!
