Border Models 1/35 A6M2 Zero

By Benjamin Jessen

Finally finished my Border Model Zero. Must say it was the kit I was most excited to build this year... When I saw it on sale I had to have it - 41€ what a steal!

Oh man I did not know the disappointment that I was in for...

In short, it's a very detailed kit and you get pretty much everything you could wish for in the kit - aside from a mask set. However, the build itself is not very enjoyable. Some parts simply do not fit together. It's a mystery how it got past a test build with all the fit issues.

I could have done more to correct the issues that are still present on the kit but was not enjoying the process anymore. Time for something new! Next time I'll pick something with a little better reputation... Although I still have 2 Border Model planes in the stash... and the HE-111 that will be released...

I am happy it is done and that I chose a scheme that is very colorful. It is something else to look at on the shelf.

And I did try a few new things that I can use in the future: Making and painting markings, painting yellow (that was quite the challenge).

For more info on the build, check out my thread in the Works in Progress forum.
