Revell 1/32nd DH98 Mosquito

By Jindřich Kulhavý

Mosquito - a wooden wonder! This is a model that I had in the works since the days when there was no 3D printing etc. The model is from 1994 (!!!) but I did not want to throw away the kit that I had been working on for several years.

I used the conversion to FB MK VI from "Grey Matter Figures" (2011) to improve the model. I also used "Quinta Studio's" interior set, and a bicycle from „Firma49.cz.” I made the canopy myself and the decals with the stencils, too.

The aircraft's color scheme is of the 21st Sqd. RAF and I found the materials in the publication „SAM Combat Colours 06." This Squadron took part in Operation "Jericho" when Mosquitos bombed a German prison to free prisoners who were to be executed. Despite losses the action was successful, and the police station building was hit and the prison wall was demolished. The aircraft pictured did not take part in this event. The aircraft I made was flown by Wing Leader Stránský Josef, DFC and Flying Officer Bouda František. These people came from 311 Sqd. and during the RAF reorganization they were offered to fly Mosquitos, a wonderful aircraft and a wooden wonder - who could resist.

They died while performing the task and were missing for a long time and only after the war did they find the crashed aircraft and the remains of the pilots. They believe that in an attempt to accurately aim at the target they flew so low that the aircraft was damaged by its own bombs.

Honoring their memory.
