Kinetic 1/24 P-47D Razorback
By Andrew Bartlett
The inspiration for this build was a picture of P-47D 42-25864 HV-A of the 61st Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group as it does a low pass over 100th Bomb Group B17 Fortresses at Thorpe Abbotts in Norfolk. It caught my attention because I grew up in the same area, spent a lot of my childhood on and around the old base and even worked the same land for a local farmer in my teens... so I feel like I have a bit of affinity with the place and the 100th. The old control tower has also been restored and is a fantastic place to visit as it keeps the memories alive: 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum.
It was built mostly out of the box but with a few additional aftermarket parts:
- Airscale USAAF Seatbelts
- DefModel Wheel Set (DS24001)
- Master Detail Set (Blast Tubes, Gunsight and Pitot Tube)
- Techmod Decals
- Yahu Instrument Panel
The kit itself is a re-box of the Vintage Fighter Series P-47D, and aside from a lack of engine detail and poor instructions I have very few criticisms of it.
And here, for a size comparison here it is in my display cabinet alongside my 1/24 Mustang.
My build thread can be found in the Work in Progress forum.
As always, thanks for looking.
